Wichita State University – A Kansas Gem

Founded back in 1895, Wichita State University (WSU) is a public research university situated in Wichita, Kansas. With a campus spread over 330 acres, an urban setting and a thriving local culture, WSU is the third largest university governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. Offering over 60 undergraduate programs in more than 200 areas of study, and about 44 masters programs in more than 100 areas to almost 12,000 students, this college is noted for its standards of education. The main WSU campus is located at North Fairmount, in Northeast Wichita, it is a picturesque sight set in one of the most charming cities in the state. With a population of over 600,000, Wichita is the state’s largest city, and shares a long and happy history with WSU. Money Magazine went so far as to rate Wichita as one of the ‘Ten best places to live’, it is a big city which has smartly managed to stay relevant, manage growth and yet not get as congested as most other big cities. Situated in the sub-tropical North American region, it sees both humid, hot summers, and chilly winters. The university comprises of six colleges offering specializations in everything ranging from business administration, engineering, education, fine arts, health care, as well as the fine arts and humanities. Regularly ranked among the best universities in the country, and was ranked 35th by the Social Mobility Index college rankings. The Princeton Review, back in 2011 considered WSU’s W. Frank Barton School of Business as the 11th best course in entrepreneurship for undergraduate students. WSU is a fully accredited university and has a membership in over 25 associations including North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, AACSB – International Association of Management Education, NAFSA, among many others. Wichita state university admits more than 1400 international students from across 100 countries, making it the largest enrollment in the state of Kansas. Every effort is made so as to provide the students with every opportunity both academic and otherwise so as to grow into their potential. The university also provides an expedited admission process where the students get their I-20 form in just three business days. They also provide intensive English training courses for students with poor IELTS scores so that they can assimilate better with their surroundings and face fewer problems with studies. Those students that have managed to clear the IELTS requirements and English proficiency training can directly begin their undergraduate or post graduate courses that they have chosen to study. Wichita State University has a number of famous alumni, including Frank and Dan Carney, founders of Pizza Hut, as well as Gary Burrell, co-founder of the famous GPS maker Garmin. Using the unique and central location of Wichita, WSU gives the students a chance to take learning out of the classroom and experiment with it in work situations.
